ABOUT ASBK

This body was a result of the initiative of MSK and the Association of Practioners in Advertising(APA) with an aim to create a review process leading to an adoption of a comprehensive and up-to date Advertising Code of Practice and Guiding Principles for the Kenyan Market. The body was set up by the marketing and advertising industry to ensure that its system of self-regulation works in an efficient and sufficient manner and that its principal activities do not work in any way whatsoever, against the public interest. This body is governed by some of the industries top professionals in the Advertising Standards Board:

The current board members of the ASB are:

  • Angela Mwirigi
  • Rita Okuthe
  • Bharat Thakar
  • Koome Mwambia
  • Joe Muganda
  • Maggie Ireri
  • John Ohaga
  • Roger Steadman
  • Patricia Ithau.

The ASB on its part appoints the membership of the ASC, consisting of two ex-officio members, three nominated members and a legal secretary. The current members of the ASC are:

The code of Advertising Practice Covers General Rules in Advertising Practice that include:

  • Moral issues common in the markets
  • All media and communication channels
  • Guiding principles and recommended complaint procedures
